According to the results of a recent poll Obama is going to be reelected. Global investors choose Obama, but domestic investors choose Romney. According to the survey Obama is winning 49%-38%. The survey was given to 1,253 Bloomberg customers. US investors choose Romney with a total of 2 to 1, while investors outside of the US choose Obama with a total of 3 to 1. I think Obama's going to get reelected.

Keith Russell Judd, Obama's opponent in the election, recieved over 40% of the votes. Judd is an inmate at the Beaumont Federal Correctional Institution. He is serving time for extortion and threats made against a university in New Mexico in 1999. The Obama campaign says that Judd will not revieve any delegates. They are trying to claim that people voted for Judd because we are racist.

Mr. Benner-Perry
Mr. Benner-Perry actually taught me a lot of stuff I didn't know. When he first came he helped us with out polls, and helped make our ammendment videos with Furby's class. After that he taught us about immigration in our country and other countries. We had to pick a country we'd like to move to and made a slideshow about it. After that we learned about environmental issues such as air pollution, water pollution, and deforestation. We got into groups and made a powerpoint about that too. After that we learned about financial things. We learned how to balance a checkbook, and write checks. We had to have a fake career and actually see what it's like to live in the real world, and manage money. He was awesome.

Should clicking like on facebook be considered in the first ammendment? I think it should. It's your right to like and support something. A sheriff in Virginia fired six officers for supporting his opponent. His opponent ended up winning the election and he fired the officers. He claims he fired them because he wanted to replace them with sworn deputies and poor performance. He clearly was just mad at the fact that they supported his opponent.

A 44 year old man put a recording device on his ten year old son to see how teachers treated him. He caught the teachers calling him names and laughing at him. They even were talking about having a hangover in front of the boy. The man later posted the video to youtube and received over 4 million views. The teachers were placed on leave.

An agreement was made Thursday to reduce the amount of US marines in Japan. Nearly 9,000 marines will be transferred. 5,000 will be sent to Guam. Japan's leader said the agreement is satisfying. Other troops will be sent to Hawaii. They hope the reduction of the forces will reduce the friction between locals and military personnel.

On April 20, 2010, 4.9 billion barrels of crude oil poured into the Gulf of Mexico. An explosion sank the drill rig Deepwater Horizon, and killed 11 men on board. After all the damages that people and businesses claim was caused by BP, they now owe up to 7.8 billion dollars. One of the engineers was asked to collect electronic information about the spill. He deleted over 200 text messages about the expolsion, including information about how much oil was actually being spilled into the ocean. If convicted he will face up to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000 on each account.

environmental issues questions
1.) What are five things you have learned about environmental abuses during this
project?
-It takes a million years for plastic to decompose.
-Only 15% of garbage is recycled
-You can be fined $1000 for littering
-Deforestation is destroying animals homes
-People get sick from polluting the environment
2.) Is this abuse one of the most important problems facing the world today?
Yes, it is one of the most important problems facing the world today. Of course, there are more important ones, but people don't realize how polluting the earth is harmful. If we keep putting it off and just keep polluting the Earth eventually there will be serious issues.
3.) Is the solution proposed a practical solution to the problem? Why?
Yes the solution proposed is practical. There is no reason for them to completely destroy forests. It's taking away animals homes. And there is other alternatives for paper, so we dn't need to cut down as many trees for that reason.
4.) What in your opinion is the most important environmental abuse facing our world today? why?
In my opinion there is no MOST important environmental abuse. They are all important, and they should all be taken seriously.

The Norway serial killer, who killed 77 people, claims he trained by video games. He says he played Call of Duty to practice shooting. He said he played World of Warcraft for 16 hours a day to train shooting. I personally don't think that's even possible. Video games don't even compare to real life guns and shooting.

Facebook is expanding their privacy archive feature. The new version of the feature allows users to see previous user names, friend requests, and the interner protocol addresses of the computers that users have logged in from. In Europe, 40,000 facebook users have requested a full copy of the data the website has aquired. I don't see how keeping all of this information is necessary.

Paul Sammut, 25 years old, invented an alarm clock that keeps going off until you get out of bed. It has no snooze button, and if it is unplugged a battery takes over. Once it goes off, to stop it, you have to actually get out of bed and go into the kitched or bathroom and type in the days date into a keyboard. He invented it because he needed something to force him out of bed on time. This is a good idea for someone who needs to wakeup on time, but I personally wouldn't buy it.

Anders Breivik killed 77 innocent people in a massacre on an island in Norway. He killed 77 people and pleads not guilty. He says it was self defense. During his court case he casually sipped water, cracked his knuckles, and read the indictment papers. He killed victims as young as 14 years old. He said he was defending Norway against multicultaralism. If Anders is proved sane he will recieve a maximum of 21 years in prison, if he is proved insane he will be supervised in a psychiatric facility. I think he should definitly spend way more time in prison. How could you kill 77 people and get only 21 years in prison.

Bullying is a big issue all over the world. Everyone has been bullied AND bullied someone else at some point in their life. A movie, called "Bully", was recently released in theaters. It shows the dangers of bullying. It shows how after soo long it can make someone take their own life. It shows how people who are bullied can get tired of it and cause harm to others, like bring a gun. I think people need to take in consideration of others feelings and cut out the bullying.

An innocent man was attacked in Baltimore after leaving a club. The attackers robbed the man, attacked him, and stripped him of his clothes. They stole his watch, iphone, and car keys. Everyone stood around and watched as this was happening and nobody attempted to stop them or help the man. The man had consumed alcohol and can't remember exactly what happened, but they have the attack on video. I think this is horrible. Atleast one person should have stood up for him and helped him.

A lesbian couple that was married in the state of California in 2008 filed for divorce two years ago in the state of Maryland. Maryland judges denied their request. They claimed the divorce couldn't be recognized under the states constitution. The governor signed a bill stating that it would be legal for the same sex to get married. But the bill will not be in affect until January 1st. I think the couple should be allowed to divorce in any state, because they were married legally.

Ozzie Guillen, the manager of the Miami Marlins, made a rude comment about Fidel Castro. Fidel Castro is the former Cuban dictator. He was suspended for five games for making the comment. I don't think that he should have been suspended because the comment had nothing to do with baseball.

Some employers are requiring their employees to hand over their facebook usernames and passwords. Since the employers complained they are now requiring them to sign onto their facebook during job interviews. Employers use this information to see the employees behavior outside of work. They can see if they are posting crude things or uploading underage drinking photos. In my opinion, this should be illegal. If it's private on someone social networking site they should not be forced to show other people.

In Florida, a seventeen year old boy was shot and killed by the town's watchman. He was walking home at night from a convenient store when the watchman started following him. I think the watchman acted inappropriately, and should be arrested.

I don't understand why people use tobacco at all.

BE IT ENACTED BY STUDENT CONGRESS ASSEMBLED THAT:
We help reduce the chances of child abuse by making it a greater crime if you abuse your children.
If youare caught hitting, kicking, slapping, burning, starving, neglecting, or emotionally and mentally
harming your children, it will be considered a federal crime and will be taken to high court.
You will have to be approved before you are allowed a child. There will be a backround check, and a
home examination before your child is born.
There will be a required class for all woman preparing to have children.
They will need to pass this class, and be approved before the birth of their child.
There will be more child abuse centers accessable to the public.
Five children die a day from child abuse.
In 1999, an estimated 3,244,00 were reported to CPS.
Since then the number has gone up more than 50,000.
A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds.
In 2005, 899,000 children were victims of child abuse, maltreatment, and neglect.
If any person fails to report the sighting of child abuse, that person shall recieve a fine of up to $2,000.
This includes the striking of a child in public, unattendance of a child, or unrational anger towards
their child.
Childhood victims of abuse are 59% more likely to be arrested as a juvenile.
Therefore; without child abuse there would be a great deal less crime.
One-third of all parents who were abused as a child typically abuse their children.
About 80% of 21 year olds that were abused as children met the criteria for at least one psychological
disorder.
Abused children are 25% more likely to experience teen pregnancy, which ultimately leads to even
more child abuse.
These order will be forced to be obeyed by the state of West Virginia.

the lorax
The land of the Lorax was very nice before the Once-ler arrived. It was peaceful, and beautiful. It had many trees and happy people with plenty of shade and food. I wouldn't mind to live there. I'd be sad to see the scenery such as the forest and animals.
The Once-ler seemed very selfish to me. He didn't care about destroying the environment or peoples food and shade. He just wanted to make himself money. He doesn't listen to the Lorax because he doesn't care, he just wants the money. He says that he is greedy because he is destroying other peoples home towns just for the benefit of himself. I agree that he is very greedy.
He speaks for the trees because he doesn't want the environment to grow. He is trying to protect the environment. It's important to speak for others, because sometimes the people are too quiet to speak up. Yes, i've spoken for someone else, and people have spoke for me.
His business destroys the whole environment. There isn't one tree or animal or person left. The Swans lost their voice because of all the smog. The Loots lost their food and shade that was once provided by the trees. The fish water becomes dirty and they are unable to live there. If the Once-ler listened to the Lorax then everything could have been saved.
I think the boy will go plant the seed. That's what i would do too.
Yes, i think the Lorax and his friends will return, because thats the only reason they left.
He means he's not going to listen to just one person telling him to stop. Maybe if a bunch of people got together they could stop him. Things we could do to better our environment could be, not littering.
He doesn't care about the lorax or his friends. He doesn't care about anyone but himself making money.
He used bright colors to show how the environment was beautiful and happy. He used dull ugly colors to show how the once-ler ruined the environment and made it less appealing or usable to people and animals.
It's called a cautionary tale because it shows that people need to take caution when it comes to abusing the environment. They need to take better care of it.

They have created an app called Braille Touch for the iphone. It allows people to type up to 63 characters by pressing different combinations of just six buttons. When using this app the user holds the phone away from the body and uses the three middle fingers of each hand to type different letters, numbers, and symbols. Spaces and backspaces are made by flicking the screen either right or left. Some blind people were able to type up to 32 words per minute with a 92% accuracy. The researchers are trying to get away from the QWERTY system which was designed in 1870. I think this app would be difficult to use at first, but i think it's a good idea to give visually impaired people a chance to text.

It turns out the game didnt't have that much affect on the people. But, the game did improve spatial ability and focus.

He says that morals and values depend on how you were raised and what parents teach their kids. People do what they think is right and wrong, instead of what is really right and wrong.
emily- She did child discipline. She says that if child doesn't discipline makes the children think that its okay to break rules. If they do discipline by hitting and screaming then the child might think thats the solution to everything.
lee- Lee's topic is the death penalty. He agrees with it. But then again he thinks its not right for a person, a judge, to choose if somone should live or not.

The question is can a persons facebook page predict what kind of employee a person might be. Studies show that it does reflect what kind of employee you might be. Which i believe this because your facebook profile is all about you. Your pictures, posts, comments all reflect what kind of person you are. A group of researchers were asked to rate a sample of 500 people by their facebook pages. They rated their personality traits based on their profile.

A man wrote something to his wife on facebook, which she found offensive. She filed a complaint saying the post violated the protection order against their child. He says that he just posted it to facebook to vent. The court ordered him to post an apology to his wife on facebook for 30 days and pay child support, or go to jail for 60 days and pay a five hundred dollar fine. I don't agree with the courts order. I believe that it's violating his first ammendment rights.

A girl was put into the news for tripping while she was texting. I believe that EVERYONE has had a mishap while texting. Although if you bump into someone while your texting it if definitely your fault, even though i don't see how any of this is a big deal.

2/23 military
A man was recently prosecuted for lying about being in the military and lying about winning an honorary award. A law was passed in 2006 to make it illegal to do that. I agree with the law. Soldeirs go out and work hard for their awards and they deserve to be protected and honored.
2/23 military
A man named Xavier Alvarez was prosecuted for lying about being in the military and winning a top military award. A law was made in 2006 that stated that it was illegal to say you are in the military, or won a military award, if it's not true. I agree with this. I think that those that served should be honored and respected. You shouldn't say you've done what they have if you havn't.
2/23 tanning bed.
The government in West Virginia is trying to pass a law that prohibits tanning in indoor tanning beds for anyone under the age of eighteen. They are doing this in order to fight skin cancer rates among young adults. The american cancer society says that young adults are 75% more likely to develop melanoma from just one tanning session than people who don't use tanning beds. People that are against the bill say that the bill wil cause tanning salons to shut down. I agree with the bill, children shouldn't be tanning anyway.

In this article they are talking about the new laws being passed. They are requiring people to show a photo ID and a proof of citizenship to vote. I agree with this law. If you are wanting to vote then you should be responsible enought to have an ID, and you should be a citizen. Some states think it's a good idea, and others disagree with it. Some states claims it takes away the rights of some citizens. In my opinion, I think it's a good law.

A twenty-three year old student from New Mexico is accused of stealing a pumpkin that is worth two dollars. Lauren Medina is scheduled to go in front of a jury on Tuesday. She claims she forgot to pay for it after paying for 75 dollars worth of groceries. Her sister offered to pay for it but was denied and Lauren was hundcuffed. This is dumb. She shouldn't be charged with anything for a two dollar pumpkin especially since she offered to pay for it aftrwards.

A family was recently arrested for not providing healthcare to their son who had cancer. People say the little boy's neck had been swollen for a long time. It was obvious he had something severely wrong with him. The parents claim they tried but didn't have the money to take the child. People say they offered to help them pay, and the hospital wouldn't deny a sick child due to money anyways. They claim the parents would rather do drugs than take care of their sick child. The parents claim that isn't true, and they loved their son dearly, and wouldn't purposely hurt him. I believe they should be punished but not 8 years in prison.

SOPA is a bill the are trying to pass to stop online piracy. In a way I agree with it, but then again I don't. People shouldn't copyright things, but nothing is going to stop them. They will just keep finding ways and new sites to publish copyrighted things. Limiting popular websites like google and wikipedia isn't fair to the rest of the public that uses it for other things. So, i believe the bill should not be passed.

The government tried passing a law to try to stop piracy on the internet. Many places like Hollywood Studios, recording industries, and book publishing companies were pushing the bill. But, many websites like facebook, google and twitter saw the bill as a threat. The government ended up not passing the bill.

Google keeps EVERYTHING that is searched. It keeps your emails, anything you googled, your pictures, absolutely evereything. In my opinion, this is completely wrong. How should anyone have the right to know all that information on a person. It is our right to have privacy and our own private stuff. Nobody should have access to it. It's just wrong.

The Bills
emily justice kyle- I agree with them, I believe that people do eat a lot of unhealthy food because it's way cheaper. It's hard to find healthy food that's affordable on a daily basis. If they lowered the prices of the healthy foods then more people would eat them.
daniel bobby justin- I agree with their bill. It would be a good idea to offer more healthy foods at fast food restaurants. At fast food places it automatically comes with soda and fries. You have to ask for the healthy food, if they swith it maybe people would be more tempted to eat healthier.
lee benny travis- I agree with their bill. I think it would be a good idea to limit the calories by offering an alternative.
ezik justin- I agree with their bill. It would be a good idea to be able to keep their original menu, but offer a healthier menu alternative.
amanda shannon- I think it's a good idea in theory, but it would be hard to do.

Well the second ammendment says we have the right to bear arms. This means we can own firearms. If a man cleaning his gun shot his gun in the air and accidently killed a young girl, then it was an accident. Accidents happen, that doesn't mean citizens shouldn't own guns. It's our right to. I mean the innocent girl definitely didn't deserve to die, he should have been more careful, and i believe he should have some punishment, but it was an accident. And besides, guns aren't the only things that kill people. Accidents happen all the time with other things, like cars. Does that mean we shouldn't have the right to own them?

In my opinion, I think it is perfectly okay for citizens to record police and their actions. If they are doing something that they don't want other people to see then they shouldn't be doing it anyways. Police are allowed to record citizens and their actions, so why shouldn't we be allowed to record them. If the video is confiscated that is a violation of our ammendments, because it says that we can't be searched without a warrant. The first ammendment protects our right to press. If we want to record something, including a police officers actions, we should be allowed.

The death penalty is a situation that is easily debatable. Theres many good and bad things about it. In my opinion, the penalty is ok, I agree with it. I believe that if someone goes out and murders an innocent person that they should recieve the death penalty. They just killed someone, why should be let them have a chance to do it again. They ended someones life, why should they be able to live. I don't think its the right punishment for EVERY crime committed. But someone that killed an innocent person, or killed people over and over, I think they deserve it. But on the other hand, you can't take it back. If you sentence someone to the death penalty and then later findout they were innocent there's nothing you can do. So, it would kind of be hard to sentence someone to the death penalty without knowing they are COMPLETELY guilty.

The health of americans is not good. Fast food is taking over. Hardly anyone eats healthy. Most people are taking in foods that aren't good for you like, greasy foods and junk food. A restaraunt recently invented the Bacon Milkshake. Seriously? I think that's disgusting. Who would even think to mix bacon flavoring into a milkshake. A lot of americans are overweight. Look at West Virginia we're one of the top obese states in America. I believe that people should start taking care of themselves and stop eating soo much fastfood. Especially things like a bacon milkshake.

What are Federalist Papers? A series of 85 articles promoting the ratification of the US constitution.
Who wrote the Federalist Papers? James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and John Jay. Publius was the name under which all the papers were published.
Federalist Paper Ten- Federalist Paper ten was the tenth of the federalist papers. It was written by James Madison. It was published on November 22, 1787. This is the most famous of the papers. This paper protected the rights of people by guarding the public against factions. Factions are a group of people that have interests contrary to the rights of other citizens.
Federalist Paper Fifty-One - This paper was also written by James Madison. It was published on February 6, 1788. It addresses that appropriate checks and balances can be created in government, and also advocates a seperation of powers within the national government. Its purpose was to form a more correct judgement of the principles and structure of the government. It says that the government is divided into different branches, and elected by the people.

Pros: A pro would be that schools or other forces couldn't spy on us just because they are suspicious.
Cons: A con of the fifth ammendment would be if someone was doing something wrong we wouldn't be able to see what they were doing. Another one would be if you got caught doing something you wouldn't have to admit anything. I don't think thats right.

1) What do you know about the US government?
I know that we are free. I know there are three branches of government, and we have a president and vice president. I know that they make all the laws and stuff.
2) What do you think about the US government's role in our society?
I think they play an important role in our society. They control what we do and stuff but it keeps everything together. Without them people would be going crazy.
3) What would you like to know or feel like you need to know about the government?
I would like to know how the government actually works. And the powers of everyone in the government.

1/30 - movie.
I only got to see half of the movie, but what I saw was good. It was kind of slow at first, but then it became interesting. The president starts to like a political strategist names Sydney. He invites her to an important dinner. She really likes him and he really likes her, but she doesn't think it's a good idea for them to be together because he's the president.

In Lincoln County, elected officials plead guilty to vote fraud. The sheriff, Jerry Bowman and the county clerk, Donald Whitten admitted to lying about votes that they recieved. They illegally manipulated absentee voters to vote for them. They gave non qualified voters ballots and told them to vote for them, and sometimes even marked it for them. There were over 600 absentee ballots. Both people resigned as office. Bowman could recieve up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 dollar fine. Whitten will recieve 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. In my opinion, that is completely ridiculous if you have to cheat to win office then you probably don't deserve it anyways.

Pros: I think the bill is a very good idea. If you're texting while driving, then you arn't paying full attention to the road and your surroundings. You are way more likely to cause an accident if you are texting, so why do it? If you have an emergency where you have to text RIGHT NOW then pull over. Not only could you hurt yourself but others around you. It's dangerous.
Cons: Some cons about this bill is that almost everyone uses their cellphone while driving. It's going to be hard for people, especially teens, to stop. There could be an emergency where you can't get off the road to use your cell.

The State of the Union Address is a speach given by the president of the United States to tell the public what he plans to accomplish in the upcoming year as president. In the 2012 speech he focused on telling about education reform, the war in Iraq, and creating new energy sources for the United States.
Obama's speech focused a lot on education. He said that techers that arn't helping kids learn should be replaced. He also said that every state should require kids to stay in school until they graduate or turn eighteen. He urged congress to stop interest rates on student loans from doubling. And he wants to extend the tuition tax credit, and double the number of work - study jobs within the next five years. I agree with everything he chose to do about education.

I agree with Obama about the different tax increases depending on your income. I think that if you're bringing in more money they should have to pay more than someone who makes less money. It's not fair to charge different classes of income the same amount of tax. I also like what he says about the oil industry. I don't think we should depend on other countries for their oil. I'm also happy about the fact that the war is now ended, just like he said it would. We managed to kill Osama, and that's a great thing. (:

Thomas Hobbes
Who: Thomas Hobbes was an English philosopher. He was mostly known for his political philosophy. He contributed to history, geometry, the physics of gases, theology, ethics and general physics.
What: He was the founder of modern politcal philosophy. His 1651 book Leviathan established the foundation for most of the western political philosophy from the perspective of the socail contract theory. He developed some of the fundamentals of European liberal thought. He wrote a book called The Elements of Law: Natural and Politic.
When: He was born in England on April 5, 1588. He died on December 4, 1679.
Where: Thomas Hobbes was born in 1588 April 5, in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, England. His premature birth was hastened by his mother's fear upon hearing of the approach of the Spanish Armada. His father was vicar of Westport but fled to London after being involved in a brawl outside his own church, leaving Thomas to be raised by a wealthy uncle. Thomas died on December 4, 1679.
Why: Hobbes is known for his development of the social contract theory, which is the method of justifying political parties. He also believed that power should be placed in the hands of one person.
How: He was one of the founders of modern political philosophy. His understanding of humans as being matter and motion, obeying the same physical laws as other matter and motion, remains influential; and his account of human nature as self-interested cooperation, and of political communities as being based upon a "social contract" remains one of the major topics of political philosophy.

My opinion of the twitter incident hasn't changed. I still don't agree with the judge. He should be punished. Nobody should be pushed to the point of suicide.
Pros: The first admendment
Cons: He caused a lady to kill himself, He shouldn't have harassed someone, Although he can say what he wants he pushed it too far.

I don't agree with the bills they are trying to pass. Although piracy is wrong, people will always find a way to do it. Shutting down useful sites that the majority of the public uses for other reason, besides piracy, is wrong. People that post online piracy should be punished, i agree with that. But, the rest of the public should not be. And by shutting down sites like wikipedia and google isn't fair to the rest of the public.
1/18/12
I disagree with the judges desicion. Although, everyone is entitiled to their own opinion, nobody deserves to be harrassed. Telling someone you disagree with their religious beliefs is one thing, but using negative comments, causing someone to end their life should lead to punishment. Maybe the lady should have stayed off twitter or blocked him, but still she didn't deserve the negative comments that she recieved. Therfore, the man should have been punished.
